Mike Elko’s Texas A&M Aggies are playing their College Football Playoff opening round game against the Miami Hurricanes at Kyle Field. At halftime, the game was scoreless as the offense from both sides failed to make an impact.
There were missed opportunities from both sides, but the matchup seemed equal. Now, there are different narratives regarding that, with many fans believing both teams have been equally terrible.
Amid the heated discussions around the poor playmaking and execution, Elko caught some heat from fans over a fake punt attempt that backfired on the Aggies. Fans didn’t mince their words while calling out the head coach for the same.
“FAKE PUNT ON YOUR OWN SIDE OF THE FIELD MIKE ELKO IS DRUNK,” a fan wrote.

“Your defense is playing lights out so of course Mike Elko decided to do a fake punt in tropical storm winds. He got luck again because Miami is equally incompetent,” a fan wrote.
“I think Mike Elko is a good coach but if you’re defense is dominating you probably shouldn’t call a fake punt from your own 40 yard line,” a fan wrote.
“Yeah let’s fake punt with our punter throwing in swirling winds. Is Mike Elko re*arded???” a fan wrote.
“Mike elko is single handily losing the Aggies this game. This dude is a f**king choker. Why are you f**king doing a fake punt?!!!!!!!!!!!! Aggies DOG SH*T FRAUDS,” a fan wrote.
“Mike Elko has zero respect for Carson Beck. A fake punt into a hurricane wind on his side of the field with 1:20 left until halftime. He has zero fear of Beck and that pass game against his elite defense. I sorta dig it,” a fan wrote.
Early in the third quarter, the Hurricanes have taken a 3-0 lead.

Mike Elko Responded to Nick Saban
The legendary Nick Saban is still poking old rivalries despite having left the sidelines to be an analyst. During a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, the former head coach talked about how he used to complain to the SEC about noise at Kyle Field.
Days later, on College GameDay, he doubled down on it, saying, “Y’all still pipe in noise to make it difficult.” Elko responded to Saban’s comments during a pregame interview and boasted about the Aggies fanbase.

“We’ve always had the crowd noise,” Elko said. “We’ve always had the fan base. None of that is actually piped in. I want to make sure I throw that out there real quick, coach.”
He quickly pivoted to talk about the upcoming game and stated that he was solely focused on the bigger task at hand.
