In today’s world of college football, the transfer portal is being utilized an awful lot. That is certainly true for Missouri linebacker Mikai Gbayor.

Mike Gbayor to Transfer
According to On3 insider Hayes Fawcett, Gbayor plans to enter the transfer portal once again. The 22-year-old entered the transfer portal just five months ago after playing two seasons at Nebraska.

Now, he is looking for a new home after realizing that Columbia, Mo., might not be the spot for him.
As a freshman in 2023 for the Cornhuskers, Gbayor recorded 24 total tackles (11 solo tackles) and a 0.5 sack. Last season, before transferring to Missouri, he put up 49 total tackles (20 solo tackles), one sack, and two fumble recoveries.
Look for the veteran to have his fair share of suitors in the portal. Veteran players are starting to matter more now than they ever have as it pertains to roster building in this era of college football.
Why the Transfer Portal is Both Good and Not Good
Gbayor is a prime example of the portal being both good and not good for the sport.
Now, maybe something came up, and the New Jersey native realized he didn’t want to play for the Tigers. Maybe he wasn’t fitting in or felt homesick, which is why being allowed to find a new home is a great option.
The same is true for any player looking to make their mark in college football. However, he will soon be on the third college football team of is career.

Players changing schools so often because things aren’t quite perfect essentially give them an escape. If players wanted to transfer years ago, they would have had to wait out the rest of the season and would usually only get the opportunity to transfer once.
Nowadays, players can transfer at will, which might not be best for them in the long run. Being in a situation that they don’t want to be in at first could give them an opportunity to grow and figure out their own way.
It is going to happen a lot more when their playing days are over.
