Michigan Puts All Eyes on 5-Star QB Ryder Lyons as No. 1 Priority

Ryder Lyons, a five-star quarterback from Folsom High School in California, has dominated the high school football scene, racking up over 7,500 total yards and more than 100 touchdowns in two stellar seasons as a starter in the Class of 2026.

At 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds, he combines ideal size with elite arm strength, accuracy, and dual-threat mobility. His sophomore season saw him throw for 3,578 yards and 38 touchdowns while adding 929 rushing yards and 23 scores. As a junior, he followed that up with 3,011 passing yards, 46 touchdowns, and 585 rushing yards, earning state player of the year honors.

Lyons’ polished mechanics, high football IQ, and explosive playmaking—highlighted by a jaw-dropping 513-yard, eight-touchdown playoff performance—have drawn comparisons to top quarterbacks. With his skill set, leadership, and deep football background, he’s regarded as a future star with pro-level potential.

    Lyons Claims He’s Michigan’s No. 1 Priority

On3 ranks Lyons as the best player in California and the fourth-best quarterback in the country. Many top schools are after him, but Lyons says Michigan has made it clear he’s their top choice. “As soon as Coach [Chip] Lindsey got the job, he made it clear that I’m their No. 1 guy,” Lyons told On3.

Lindsey is entering his debut season as the quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator for the Michigan Wolverines. He arrived after two years at North Carolina, where he honed his coaching skills.

During his time with the Tar Heels, Lindsey worked closely with Drake Maye, a standout quarterback who became a first-round NFL draft pick—selected third overall by the New England Patriots in 2024—after a stellar college career that saw him throw for 8,018 yards and 63 touchdowns over two seasons, earning ACC Player of the Year honors in 2022.
Now, with the chance to coach five-star recruit Bryce Underwood, a prized talent in Michigan’s pipeline, Lindsey’s track record is turning heads. It’s no shock that Lyons, a top-tier quarterback prospect, keeps a keen eye on the exciting developments unfolding in Ann Arbor under Lindsey’s guidance.

With Lyons being one of the most sought-after quarterbacks in the 2026 class, Michigan is pulling out all the stops to land him. Lindsey’s success with top-tier quarterbacks and Michigan’s strong push could make a lasting impression. As Lyons navigates his recruitment, all eyes will be on whether the Wolverines can seal the deal and add another elite talent to their future quarterback room.
