Michigan Head Coaching Search Takes Bold Turn With ‘Blank Check’ Push For SEC Coach Ahead OF CFP

The Michigan Wolverines’ search for a new head coach amidst former head coach Sherrone Moore’s firing has recently seen a lot of developments.

Former NFL quarterback & college football analyst Greg McElroy on ESPN’s college football show revealed how the Wolverines are batting hard to get current Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer. He also highlighted how the three-time national championship-winning coach is the number one name on Michigan’s preferential list of head coaches.

McElroy emphasized how DeBoer’s recent public comments pertaining to Michigan could remove him from head coach contention. But that will likely not happen, as Michigan has reportedly offered a blank check in order to get DeBoer to ink a deal with the Wolverines.

“Michigan has been applying the full court press from the very beginning,” McElroy stated (5:23).

“Michigan has offered what I’ve been told is a blank check to try to get Kalen Deboer out of Tuscaloosa and to Ann Arbor,” he further elaborated (5:27).

Despite all of this, McElroy opined that he doesn’t think that Kalen DeBoer is going to take the Michigan gig considering how happy he is with the Crimson Tide.

DeBoer Pushes Back On Wolverines Speculation With Public Statement

Despite DeBoer being linked with potentially heading the Wolverines in 2026, the current Alabama Crimson Tide coach, in a public announcement, has indirectly called out any such speculation pertaining to his role with the Crimson Tide.

In a public statement released by DeBoer, the coach emphasized how he has not been in talks with any other program and has no interest in the same. He also gave his commitment to Alabama, further continuing as their head coach.

“I have not spoken and have no interest in speaking with anyone else about any other job. I am fully committed to this program and look forward to continuing as the head football coach at the University of Alabama,” DeBoer revealed in a statement.

Kalen, in his public release, whilst talking about his commitment to Alabama amidst rumors linking him to other programs, also highlighted how he and his family are happy in Tuscaloosa. He further revealed how the Crimson Tide have already started preparing for their CFB playoff against the Oklahoma Sooners.
