It’s officially November. For college football fans, that means only one thing: the final rally for the playoffs. The Michigan Wolverines moved to 18 following their bye. They still have a game against Ohio State. Will it be enough for them to make the final 12?
Michigan can’t complain. There are three games left on their schedule. The first two are against Northwestern and Maryland. The last one is against Ohio State. While none will be easy, the Wolverines have more than a chance to succeed. They are knocking on the door of the playoffs at 7-2.
Win out. A two-loss Michigan should be in the playoffs. At that point, they would have a better resume than any other Big 10 contender on the edge. A win against OSU would go a long way in helping them against other teams as well. Texas lost to OSU earlier in the year. A win should give the Wolverines the edge, as they could beat the common opponent.

Latest CFP Scenarios
The SEC conference could be an issue this year. Texas, Oklahoma, and Vanderbilt all sit right on the outside and could win out. If all three teams do, you’re looking at them along with Texas A&M, Alabama, Georgia, and Ole Miss for a total of seven teams. All of them would have better resumes than the other two losing teams in the conversation. It would also leave room for only one more at-large team.
The Big 12 could have a say in this, too. BYU could run the table and fall to Texas Tech in the conference championship again. Then the committee will have to make another tough decision: choose a two-loss BYU team whose losses are to a Top 6 Texas Tech team or another contender.
If Michigan were in this spot, having suffered losses to Oklahoma and USC, it could leave them out because of the magnitude of those losses. This scenario could also knock out a three-loss Texas team. Not to be forgotten is Utah, which sits right outside the top 12 with no ranked games left.
Bottom Line
The season is starting to tighten up, and every single game will begin to matter. For Wolverine fans, it’s simple: win out. If Michigan finds itself at two losses at the end of the season, it will have the best win of the year against Ohio State. Fortunately for all college football fans, all we can do is sit back and watch the show.
