$250M Worth Michigan Superfan Dave Portnoy Claims OSU Matchup Should Have An Asterisk Amid Sherrone Moore Debacle

On December 15, 2025, former Ohio State head coach, Urban Meyer, bluntly revealed that the Michigan Superfan, Dave Portnoy, who has a net worth of $250M (according to Celebrity Net Worth), has not yet paid him the $1000 he’s owed after the two bet on “The game” this year.

On December 23, Meyer updated that Portnoy did end up sending him the cheque after he sent the ex-Buckeyes head coach a text asking about his address.

Meyer also shared the thought he had about not cashing in the cheque and just preserving it in a photo frame in his man cave, but then he realized it wasn’t written by him.

During a conversation on Monday morning between Portnoy and Meyer, the Michigan Superfan coined the idea about an asterisk next to this year’s Ohio State-Michigan game that the Buckeyes won as they had an unfair advantage, with Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore’s mind not being in football fully.

“It’s a sad situation but it’s tough to win that game it’s tough to stay focused it appears as though our head coach could have been in a straight jacket heading into that game. He did not have his mind on football. I don’t know that Ohio State Ryan Day even gets credit for that victory in light of everything that was circling around that. I mean, I could have beaten us at that point. We didn’t have a coach. There was so much Mickey Mouse stuff going. We didn’t know that,” Portnoy said.

Portnoy further joked that if he was in Meyer’s place he wouldn’t have cashed that cheque for himself as an honor of integrity.

Urban Meyer’s Heartfelt Message For Sherrone Moore And His Family Amid Michigan Firing

Sherrone Moore’s story in the 2025 college football season is among the most tragic ones. After an impressive 9-3 season in his second year with the program, the Wolverines head coach was fired for having an inappropriate relationship with a staff member while he was still married with three kids.

Moore also spent time in jail for breaking into Paige Shiver’s house and threatened to kill himself in front of her eyes with a butter knife and scissors.

Urban Meyer shared his response on the tragedy and revealed that he said a prayer for Moore and his family.

“I mean, you got three little girls. You got a guy that was on top of the world a week ago. You know, they find a way, they’re up 6-0 on the Buckeyes at home, and then also you wake up and they’re in this situation,”  Meyer said on The Triple Option podcast.

Michigan has now replaced Moore with the ex Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham with a five-year deal.
