With the 2025 spring transfer portal window wide open, players are looking for new homes and, more importantly, new opportunities to showcase their talents on the field. Despite changing teams, we sometimes see players return to their team after testing the waters.
This was seen blatantly when it came to former five-star wide receiver prospect Micah Hudson and the Texas Tech Red Raiders after testing the waters in the transfer portal. Hudson is predicted to return to the Red Raiders after his portal fiasco.

WR Micah Hudson Predicted To Return To Texas Tech
A familiar face is expected to return to Lubbock as former five-star wideout Hudson is scheduled to land back with the Red Raiders. Hudson transferred to Texas A&M in December after just one season with the Red Raiders. He picked up just eight receptions for 123 yards during his freshman year.
Unfortunately, injuries seemingly derailed his freshman year. Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire believed Hudson’s injury ultimately limited his potential last season and discussed it last December.
“The injury affected him to where going through camp, like how he was progressing and getting caught up, and then he really got to where we were like ‘OK, he’s really got his legs beneath him, here we go,’ and then he gets hurt again,” McGuire said. “And then there’s little things. We’re a play away from him; he’s wide-open if we hit him in the end zone, and he catches the game-winner against TCU.
However, this shouldn’t change because the 6-foot-0, 190-pound wideout still has an auspicious future if he can find the right fit. It appears that a return home could be in the cards. On3’s Pete Nakos and Steve Wiltfong have both predicted that Hudson will transfer back to Texas Tech.
“On3’s Steve Wiltfong and I have logged picks for Micah Hudson to land back at Texas Tech,” Nakos says. “The wide receiver never made it to his Utah visit over the weekend, the Red Raiders feel like this is very close to done.”
As a recruit, Hudson was ranked as the No. 4 prospect from the state of Texas and the No. 5 overall wide receiver nationally in the 2024 class. He held offers from 35 of the top programs in the country, including Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, Colorado, Florida, LSU, Michigan, and Notre Dame.
However, the Texas native wanted to remain in his home state. This was blatantly apparent even after he left Texas Tech the first time and went to Texas A&M. Now, it sounds like he’s set for a return to Lubbock and the Red Raiders.

The Red Raiders’ offense was outstanding last season. They finished ninth in passing yards per game with 296.7 and fifth in points scored with 38.5. If Hudson can remain healthy in 2025, he should have plenty of opportunities for a big rebound season in the place that started it all for him.
