Are the RedHawks a risky bet? Will Joe Moorhead’s men make you some money? If you’re going to take advantage of the Miami (OH) vs. Akron odds, consider some of the following factors before you part with your hard-earned cash.

We love college football in part because of its unpredictability. Anything can happen on any given Saturday. However, it’s not Saturday, it’s Wednesday, and there’s a reason why Miami (OH) is a significant favorite. Take your pick from current form and overall record, Miami’s six-game win streak in the head-to-head, or Akron losing every game they’ve been an underdog as to why.

The Miami (OH) vs. Akron odds also make the RedHawks a significant spread favorite. Chuck Martin’s team is 7-2 against the spread, including going 2-0 as a double-digit favorite. Although Akron has covered twice as a two-score underdog, the Zips are 3-6 against the spread this season. While it might be a close call, Miami (OH) has the potential to cover.

Although Akron is 4-5 covering the points total line this season, Miami (OH) is 5-4. If the RedHawks can hang 30 on Ohio then they should be able to rack up a sizeable score on the Zips. If the home team hits the 33 points our Miami (OH) vs. Akron prediction suggests, that requires the Zips to put up nine points to cover the line and we’re fairly confident they have it in them.

There are three college football games on Wednesday to compile your DFS team from in Week 11. If you’re new to DFS, Fanduel Superflex contests require you to select a quarterback, two running backs, three wide receivers, and a “Superflex” that can be any of the above. Or you can also select a tight end for the Superflex spot.

With Toledo in action on Wednesday and set to dominate your DFS and fantasy possibilities, your Miami (OH) vs. Akron picks may be minimal. However, there’s some “must start” potential in the game, with RedHawks wide receiver Gage Larvadain one of the hottest fantasy assets in the MAC.

Only two teams in the conference have allowed more receiving touchdowns than the Zips in 2023. Kent State’s Chrishon McCray put up video game numbers against Akron last week, and Larvadain should do the same. Depending on his value, QB Aveon Smith might be a Superflex possibility, with his dual-threat capability firing up the RedHawks offense against Ohio last week.

Akron quarterback Jeff Undercuffler had a sensational showing a week ago, dragging the Zips past Kent State late on. However, running back Lorenzo Lingard is still their top fantasy asset and a key cog in their offense. Although the RedHawks’ defense is strong against the run, Lingard should pace their offense as he continues to showcase his talent at the MAC level.

Prediction for Miami (OH) vs. Akron

Okay, we’ve furnished you with the Miami (OH) vs. Akron odds and some DFS picks. Now, it’s time to close this thing out with our prediction. Can the Zips shut down the Miami (OH) offense and get a shock Wednesday night win? Or are the RedHawks flying towards the MAC Championship Game with another win?

After going four games without scoring more than 14 points, the Akron offense fired into life a week ago, putting up 31 points on Kent State to record their first MAC and FBS win of the year. Undercuffler showcased the arm talent that made him one of the top FCS players while at Albany. Meanwhile, RB Lingard logged the second 100+ yard game of his career.

Sadly for Akron, the Miami (OH) defense is a different beast to the Kent State unit they beat up on a week ago. The RedHawks rank second in the MAC with 19.0 points allowed — only Ohio has allowed fewer yards per carry and rushing touchdowns. Brian Ugwu and Caiden Woullard have lived in opposition backfields, while Raion Strader leads the secondary in pass breakups.

Although they’ve allowed 29.1 points per game, the Akron defense restricted both Buffalo and Central Michigan to under 20 points this year, with Bryan McCoy and CJ Nunnally IV being players worth watching. However, Miami (OH)’s offense should prove too much to handle, with backup quarterback Smith having a plethora of weapons to work with. Miami gets an easy win.

Prediction: Miami (OH) 33, Akron 14
