27-Year-Old Miami TE Cam McCormick Eyes NFL After Impressive Pro Day Performance

Cam McCormick, a 27-year-old tight end for the Miami Hurricanes, is taking his shot at the NFL after spending an unprecedented nine years in college football. At Miami’s Pro Day on Monday, he showcased his abilities for NFL scouts.

The video of his sprint went viral, impressing many with his speed at 6’5″. Turning 27 just weeks before the NFL Draft, McCormick is determined to earn a spot in the league, joining former college teammates like five-year NFL quarterback Justin Herbert.

Originally from Oregon, he was a part of the 2016 recruiting class and started his career with the Ducks as a three-star prospect. He suffered multiple injury spells over seven seasons of play for Oregon, including season-ending injuries in 2019 and 2020.

In his first year, he played in 13 games, making six receptions and a touchdown. Nonetheless, in the subsequent four seasons, he appeared in only three games.

McCormick’s best statistical season came in 2022 before transferring to Miami for a fresh start under head coach Mario Cristobal.

His college career officially concluded in 2024, marking the end of a long journey filled with adversity. Benefiting from multiple medical redshirts and a COVID-19 eligibility waiver, McCormick remained in the NCAA for nearly a decade. Now, his focus has shifted to the professional level.

    Cam McCormick’s Unbreakable Journey

Cam McCormick, a three-star tight end originally from Bend, Oregon, achieved his childhood dream when he committed to the Oregon Ducks in 2016. However, his journey was anything but smooth. Before arriving in Eugene, he tore his ACL in high school, forcing him to redshirt his freshman year.

In 2017, he fought against rhabdomyolysis, a severe muscle condition, yet he still played 13 games. And just in time, when he was going to step forward in 2018, a defender fell on his legs, and at this point, he broke his left fibula and suffered a torn ankle ligament.

This injury was the cause of multiple complications, which is why, for more than two years, he was out of the field.

As he described the injuries, he was “In pain 24 hours a day, seven days a week.” McCormick considered quitting in 2020, but his mother, Debra, refused to let him give up.

Eventually, Dr. Robert Anderson repaired his tendon, allowing him to return in 2021—only to suffer an Achilles tear.

After finally playing a full season in 2022, McCormick transferred to Miami, reuniting with coach Mario Cristobal.

“He believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself,” McCormick said.

Now, after nine years in college, he’s aiming for the NFL, determined to prove his resilience on the next level.
