Miami is making a bet for the second year in a row. The Hurricanes brought veteran quarterback Carson Beck for his final year of college football, hoping he can do what Cam Ward did for them in 2024. Ward was also a transferee with plenty of starting experience in his final year of eligibility. He ended up being a Heisman finalist and the first pick of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson believes they can pull the same trick for a second time in a row. This was reported by an On3 source close to Miami, who said that Dawson is sure he has another first overall pick in Beck.

However, a few fans disagreed and shared their reactions online.
“Sure. Exactly one year ago Georgia thought the same thing,” said one fan.
“Stop believing bud,” joked another person.
Others defended Miami’s gamble.
“everyone laughing didn’t have cam going in the first round,” pointed out someone.
“Beck is better than Ward,” claimed one person.
Some fans don’t seem hopeful about Carson Beck’s chances of making it to the NFL.
“Beck gonna kill it in the Arena Football League,” joked one fan.
“Not a chance. Beck sucks. He doesn’t even like football,” said another person.
Some made fun of Miami instead of Carson Beck.
“Could you imagine them going back-to-back with the #1 pick at QB but missing the playoffs both years 😭,” said one person, positing a bizarre situation.

HC Mario Cristobal previews Miami Hurricanes’ Week 1 encounter Notre Dame
The Hurricanes have a difficult season opener, as they will face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
The Irish are the current national championship runner-ups. However, coach Mario Cristobal sees it as an opportunity to make a statement early in the season:
“Without a doubt, I think everybody knows that,” Mario Cristobal said on the Gramlich & Mac Lain show this week. “It’s such a big, such an incredible opportunity for our program that that’s going to take care of itself come game week. As the big guy knows, I can’t be baited into talking about an opponent before game week.”
Miami has something going in its favor for this game. It’s going to be played at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. Notre Dame will have to adapt to local conditions, and not the other way around.
