Will 5-Star USC Commit, Alijah Arenas Be Able To Play Again After Car Accident?

Alijah Arenas, a five-star prospect and son of former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas, is out of an induced coma after a car crash in Los Angeles, according to a statement from his family per ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Arenas is an 18-year-old basketball player who went to Chatsworth. He was involved in a crash when his Tesla Cybertruck left the road and crashed into a fire hydrant and tree. He was taken to a local hospital and placed into a medically induced coma, from which he has woken up.

Will Alijah Arenas ever play basketball again?

The family statement says that Alijah Arenas remains intubated, but he’s able to open his eyes and write on a piece of paper.

“The family continues to ask for the public’s prayers and support as their miracle baby fights his way back to a full recovery,” the statement said. “Further updates will be shared as Alijah continues to heal.”

Arenas is a five-star prospect scheduled to enroll at USC this summer, and fans are beginning to wonder if he’ll ever step on the court again after this accident.

According to ESPN, initial tests show that Arenas did not suffer broken bones. It is very important that Arenas didn’t suffer any physical injuries, as any fracture or ligament damage could result in long-term consequences.

Also, a medically induced coma is used to protect the brain from swelling after injury and allow the body to heal, meaning there was no damage done to the brain. The fact that’s he’s responsive about a day later means his brain and nervous system are functioning well.

Arenas won’t be back out on the court immediately, but he will play basketball again. As a matter of fact, he should be ready in time to start the new basketball season with USC. With access to state-of-the-art medical facilities, he’ll be back to full fitness in no time.

Arenas is a highly rated prospect, and the basketball world will be delighted he’s escaped serious harm. His high school performances earned him an invite to the McDonald’s All-American Game in April. He scored 11 points for the West, helping lead the team to a 105-92 victory over the East.
