Who Is Jacob Ross, Jayden Ross’s Brother? Meet the New UConn Huskies Recruit

Talented wing Jacob Ross was signed and committed to play for Ben Johnson and Minnesota, but after the Gophers’ coaching change, he was released from his National Letter of Intent (NLI). Now, he’ll play for UConn and head coach Danny Hurley next season.

He initially chose Minnesota over top offers from Kansas State, VCU, and Old Dominion. He’ll now play for one of the best coaches in the country alongside his older brother Jayden Ross at UConn.

Ross visited UConn this past week and made his commitment official on Thursday. Ross’s addition means UConn is back to having four incoming freshmen after Darius Adams flipped to Maryland. Jacob Furphy, Eric Reuben, and Braylon Mullins comprise the rest of the freshman class.

Ross played with his brother Jayden at Long Island Lutheran High and with the Team Melo AAU program. He attended SoCal Academy in California this past season. He has been seen at multiple UConn games over the past few years, including this past January at Villanova. He was also at UConn’s First Night festivities a couple of years ago.

UConn’s general manager, Tom Moore, said the team is looking for a talented player who can vastly increase the Huskies’ competition level in practice and, perhaps, work his way into a spot in the rotation at some point in the future for its final three or four scholarships this year. Ross fits the description, and he’s made his way to Connecticut.

The Huskies are still in the market for a third-string center who would probably see more action than some other recruits they’re targeting. They have 10 scholarship spots filled, so there’s still room for newcomers.
