Who Are Texas Tech Forward Darrion Williams’ Parents?
Darrion Williams and his parents, Katherine and Leon Williams IV, have a close and affectionate relationship. The family’s constant backing is shown by the changes and sacrifices they all made when Darrion started his basketball journey.
His mother, Katherine, has been a firm source of support. Their regular communication highlights their strong relationship.
“It brightens my day every time I see his calls coming in,” Katherine says. Her presence and encouragement have been essential to Darrion’s adaptability and self-confidence. “We miss him a lot, but we are always there for each other.”
When he left Sacramento for Las Vegas, he lived with his father, Leon, during the transition. It wasn’t easy.
“It took a toll,” Leon admitted. He confesses that the situation put a strain on everyone. All of them understood and made the necessary sacrifices that were required for Darrion’s basketball dreams, since it was the proper direction. “Sacrifice means a lot to me,” Darrion narrates.
Throughout the hardest moments of losing his grandfathers in 2020 and 2021. He maintained his connection with family members for support.
“I stayed as strong as I could,” he narrates. He misses his grandma’s cooking, especially his favorite spaghetti and his family, but he feels thankful for his journey.
“My family has kept me going,” he says.
Williams has faced equal amounts of obstacles as he has accomplished achievements. Before making the switch to Bishop Gorman High School from Capital Christian High School in Sacramento, he maintained solid performance records in individual competitions.
During his final season, he secured the 2022 Nevada Gatorade Player of the Year award while averaging 15.2 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 4.0 steals per game.

But recognition didn’t come easily. He received his first college offer during his senior year in January. He remained composed during that period because his family believed in his abilities. Nevada awarded him their Freshman Player of the Year trophy following his successful season despite battling doubt from skeptics.
He maintains his position as a top player at Texas Tech while his family supports him as his foundation.“I have a great support system back home with them. I get homesick for sure, but they’re always there when I call and need to talk,” Williams says.
