Earlier in the year, San Diego State guard Miles Byrd declared for the NBA Draft while maintaining his college eligibility. He’s yet to decide if he’ll follow through with the draft or return to San Diego State for another season, but his performance at the NBA Draft Combine has analysts projecting him to be a second-round pick.
Byrd grew up in Stockton, California, and attended Lincoln High School. In his senior year, he averaged 17.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.8 steals per game. Byrd committed to San Diego State, despite offers from Washington, Villanova, Saint Mary’s, and more. Now, three seasons of college ball later, he could be drafted into the NBA.

Who are San Diego State G Miles Byrd’s Parents?
San Diego State NBA Draft prospect Miles Byrd was born to Jodie and Calvin Byrd on September 8, 2004. His father, Calvin, played basketball and was a McDonald’s All-American in 1989, where he teamed up with future NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal in a 112-103 victory for the West.
Calvin Bird played for Villanova for four years before playing professionally in the Atlantic Basketball Association and in Switzerland before transitioning to a coaching career.
He spent 18 years coaching at the Division I level, starting at UC Irvine, then San Francisco, Pacific, Loyola Marymount, and a second stint with Pacific. During his first tenure with the Tigers, the couple gave birth to Miles.
Miles’s childhood experience of growing up around Division I basketball shaped him as a basketball player. His performances at the combine improved his draft stock, as the 6’7 “, 190-pound Byrd excelled on both ends of the court.
In his combine performance, Byrd scored 24 points on 8-of-16 shooting, including five three-pointers, and had eight assists. NBA Scouts and analysts got a look at his defensive ability to sway the game on the court as he combined for five steals and four blocks.

He was selected Second-team All-Mountain West and Mountain West All-Defensive team in 2025 before being invited to the NBA Draft combine alongside Colorado State’s Nique Clifford and Nevada’s Kobe Sanders as the lone selections from the Mountain West Conference.
San Diego State has not had a player drafted into the NBA since the 2020 draft when Malachi Flynn went No. 29 to the Toronto Raptors.
Flynn, Kawhi Leonard (2011) and Michael Cage (1984) are the three Aztecs to be first round NBA selections in program history.
