Denzel Aberdeen, a rising senior guard, recently announced his transfer to Kentucky. According to ESPN and Rivals, he was originally a four-star recruit.
He began his collegiate career at Florida in 2022, appearing in 12 games and totaling 19 points as a freshman. During his sophomore season (2023-24), he played 32 games, averaging 3.3 points and 0.9 rebounds per game. But who is his support system? Let’s take a look at his family.

Behind Denzel Aberdeen’s Transfer to Kentucky: A Look at His Parents’ Support
Denzel Aberdeen, a standout college basketball player, was born and raised in Orlando, Florida, where he attended Dr. Phillips High School.
During his senior year, he averaged 14.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game, leading his team to the 2021 7A State Championship, the first in school history. He also helped them reach the State Championship game in 2022, as the Florida Gators website reported.
His parents, Ian and Denyse Aberdeen, have been pivotal in his athletic journey.
“My dad was like, ‘Whatever coach wants you to do in order for you to win games is what you got to do and what you got to embrace,’” Denzel told the Orlando Sentinel.
“‘No matter what your role is, just go in there 100% and always fight hard for your teammates.’ That’s what I just took on.”
Ian, Denzel’s father, has been outspoken about his son’s college career, especially regarding his transfer from Florida to Kentucky.
“His game is very, very unselfish, sometimes to a fault. The more he continued playing, even up to this point, he just needed a place where he could expand his game and show what he could do.”
Ian has shared his views on Denzel’s playing time and the family’s decision to seek a better fit for his future. His involvement underscores the Aberdeens’ commitment to ensuring Denzel’s success and feeling valued on his team.
“He hasn’t really shown what he can do. You could see spurts of it at Florida and even previously, but he wants a coach who believes in him.”
While Denyse, Denzel’s mother, keeps a lower public profile, she has been a constant support throughout his academic and athletic path, as confirmed by the Florida Gators and various sports outlets.
The Aberdeens are a close-knit family, and Denzel credits his parents with instilling in him a strong work ethic and a balance between academics and sports. Denzel also has five siblings, further emphasizing the importance of family in his upbringing.
