Every year, a new batch of athletes emerges with roots to former greats. One such star is Alijah Arenas, who made headlines by committing to USC.
However, he was most recently in the news following a serious car accident that left his Tesla Cybertruck wrecked and him intubated in the hospital. Let’s look deeper at his family and how they shaped his journey.

Who Are Alijah Arenas’s Parents? A Look at the USC Commit’s NBA Player Father
Alijah Arenas was born in Oakland, California, on March 16, 2007. He is the No. 10-ranked recruit in the class of 2025 by 247 Sports. At 6’6”, Alijah plays as a shooting guard for Chatsworth High School. According to ESPN, he is ranked as the third-best shooting guard.
During his high school career, Alijah averaged 31.8 points and 7.5 rebounds, potentially foreshadowing his college career.
Trojan fans will have to wait for that, though. After his dangerous car accident earlier in April, he’ll have a long road towards recovery.
Who Is Alijah Arenas’ Father, Gilbert Arenas?
Alijah’s love for basketball was not accidental. His father is Gilbert Arenas, a former NBA star known as “Agent Zero” during his playing days due to his jersey number 0. Gilbert was born on January 6, 1982, in Tampa, Florida, and played at Arizona from 1999 to 2001.
In 2001, he was drafted in the second round as the 31st overall pick in the NBA Draft. Gilbert was a proficient shooting guard and a three-time NBA All-Star, 2003 NBA Most Improved Player, All-NBA Second Team selection, and All-NBA Third Team selection.
Overall, he recorded 11,402 points (20.7 PPG), 2,168 rebounds (3.9 RPG), and 2,909 assists (5.3 APG).
