CJ Jones, a 6’5″ guard who recently entered the transfer portal, is weighing options from several programs, including DePaul, Seton Hall, and South Florida. The former Kansas State player transferred there from UIC, where he stood out as a sophomore, averaging 11.4 points and leading the team in assists.
His production slowed in Manhattan, with averages of 5.7 points, 1.5 assists, and less than 19 minutes per game during the 2024–25 season. Still, Jones’ combination of size, court vision, and backcourt versatility has drawn interest as teams seek experienced help at the guard position. A decision is expected in the coming weeks.

A former UIC standout, Jones’ college career has been a mixed bag. In his second year at UIC, he produced 11.4 points, 3.5 boards, and 4.8 dimes per game while making 42.5% of field goals and 37.8% of threes.
Even so, his Kansas State stint was marked by lessened contributions, for the most part, as he scored only 5.7 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 18.9 minutes of play.
Several programs have reached out to Jones since he entered the portal, including Indiana, USC, UNLV, Mississippi State, Seton Hall, Virginia Tech, DePaul, Memphis, New Mexico State, Missouri State, Sam Houston, Pacific, Sacramento State, Georgia Tech, and South Florida.
Notably, Virginia Tech, which has seen multiple guard departures, could benefit from Jones’ playmaking abilities and floor-spacing skills.
Both DePaul and Seton Hall, as members of the Big East, provide competitive atmospheres that could draw Jones’s interest. It is possible that DePaul, which is capable of making its roster, provides instant playing time, whereas Seton Hall offers a chance to join a stronger program.
From another conference, South Florida could also be involved, depending on their ongoing situations and Jones’ inclinations. Jones is in a contemplative mood as he tries to find a place where he can make a comeback after a tough season at Kansas State.
