Before LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Carmelo Anthony became household names, they shared one defining high school experience: the Jordan Brand Classic. This elite showcase bearing basketball’s greatest icons’ names has become the ultimate proving ground where tomorrow’s stars first shine on the national stage.
The Jordan Brand Classic has served as basketball’s crystal ball for over two decades. The 2025 edition marked the event’s 23rd year. It continues its legacy as the premier platform where top high school seniors display their remarkable talents before college scouts, basketball insiders, and fans eager to spot the next generation of greatness.

Basketball’s Most Impressive Alumni Network
The Jordan Brand Classic’s roster of past participants reads like a basketball hall of fame preview. This event has consistently identified players destined for basketball greatness, from early participants like James and Anthony to later stars Jayson Tatum and Zion Williamson.
Since introducing the girls’ game in 2015, the Classic has equally championed female basketball talent. Stars like Sabrina Ionescu and Satou Sabally first gained national recognition here before dominating college basketball and reaching WNBA success.
The event’s MVP award has proven remarkably predictive of future stardom. Past recipients include Amar’e Stoudemire, James, Durant, Kyrie Irving, and Anthony Davis, who have collectively shaped modern basketball with their extraordinary skills.
Players typically compete on two squads, “Team Air” and “Team Flight,” in high-scoring contests that prioritize offensive creativity and individual brilliance over defensive intensity. This gives scouts and fans the perfect showcase of raw talent.
The 2025 Classic: Returning to Its Roots
The 2025 Jordan Brand Classic unfolded on April 18 at Washington D.C.’s CareFirst Arena, marking a meaningful homecoming to the city where it all began. Organizers described this return as a “full circle moment” for the storied event.
This year’s roster featured a powerful connection to the event’s legacy with Kiyan Anthony, son of former NBA star and 2002 participant Anthony, representing a new generation in the footsteps of greatness.
The boys’ contest delivered offensive fireworks as Team Air outscored Team Flight 141-124. Kiyan Anthony claimed MVP honors with 26 points while Caleb Wilson led all scorers with 28. AJ Dybantsa helped Team Flight with an impressive 25-point performance.
In the girls’ showdown, Team Flight prevailed 128-108 behind Aaliyah Chavez’s MVP performance of 24 points, five assists, and five steals. Nyla Brooks set a scoring record with 28 points for Team Air while Sienna Betts and Jazzy Davidson contributed 22 and 19 points, respectively, for the victorious Team Flight.
