VMI Keydets, Men’s Basketball HC Andrew Wilson Agree to Lucrative Three-Year Extension

VMI is keeping their head basketball coach around for the foreseeable future. After a much-improved 2024, Andrew Wilson has earned a lucrative extension, keeping him with the Keydets through the 2029-2030 season.

    VMI Extends Andrew Wilson

According to the team site, Wilson has earned a three-year extension that will run through the 2029-2030 season.

After winning a combined 11 games over two previous seasons, Wilson guided his team to 15 wins in 2024-2025. His Keydets team also went from winning just one game in conference two seasons ago to winning seven this past year.

The team has had just one winning record in the last 11 seasons. However, Wilson’s jump from four wins two years ago to 15 this past season is nothing to scoff at. This is very similar to a team going from winning 19 games to 30.

A ton of growth was shown, which is why Wilson has earned the opportunity to have his future locked up down the line.

The former James Madison and Georgia Southern assistant has had a slow rise to fame, but he has proven that he can be a quality mind for this basketball program.

2025 Outlook for VMI and Andrew Wilson

After finally becoming competitive this past year, Wilson will need to help mold his team into a conference contender next season.

Leading scorer Ricky Bradley Jr. will likely be back for another season after putting up over 16.0 points per game.

Upperclassman Augustinas Kiudulas, who averaged over 15.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game this past year, is likely to be back, too.

Getting these two pieces back should help Wilson maintain some stability in both the front and the backcourt.

The goal for this team should be to increase its win total again.

If Wilson and Co. can win 20 games and stay in contention in the conference, anything is possible.

However, this team cannot afford to take a step back.

If they win less than 15 games, Wilson could be back on the hot seat, especially given his career record. Plenty of eyes will be on the 42-year-old as he looks to take his team to even greater heights this next season.
