Baylor Bears guard VJ Edgecombe has long been considered a potentially high draft pick in the upcoming 2025 NBA Draft. This has been bolstered by his successful one-and-done year of college basketball with coach Scott Drew’s program, where they went all the way to the second round of this year’s March Madness, losing to the Duke Blue Devils, 89-66.

The Bimini, Bahamas, native went off in the 2024-25 season to the tune of 15.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 2.1 steals to help the Bears finish with an overall record of 20-15 (10-10, Big 12). Let’s take a look at the potential landing spots for Edgecombe in the 2025 NBA Draft on June 25-26 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

5 NBA Landing Spots For VJ Edgecombe

#5 New Orleans Pelicans

Coach Willie Green’s New Orleans Pelicans have the seventh overall pick in the first round of the NBA Draft. Edgecombe is a projected top-five pick, but in case the young dynamo is still available by the time the Pelicans make their selection, Edgecombe could be a no-brainer for them, given his raw athleticism and skillset.

If Edgecombe does end up going to New Orleans, he can immediately form an uber-athletic duo with the first overall pick of the 2019 draft in Zion Williamson. Williamson’s career has been plagued by injuries, but he has shown his potential when healthy. Along with standouts such as veteran guard CJ McCollum and swingmen Herb Jones and Trey Marshall, the Pelicans are a dark horse to select Edgecombe.

#4 San Antonio Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs earned the second overall pick in the draft lottery with a 1.8% chance at the top selection. Given that third-year superstar Victor Wembanyama, 2025 Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle, and All-Star De’Aaron Fox are all set to return in the 2025-26 season, Edgecombe can be inserted into this lineup to bolster an up-and-coming Spurs team.

This potential core could bring the storied franchise back in the mix of the tightly-contested Western Conference and return a winning culture to San Antonio that can be instilled in Edgecombe.

#3 Utah Jazz

Out of all of the probable landing spots for VJ Edgecombe, he has the best chance to be a franchise’s No. 1 star for years to come at the Utah Jazz. Coach Will Hardy’s Jazz has been in the rebuilding phase ever since they traded former stars Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert. They’ve based the team around the likes of former All-Star Lauri Markkanen, former Sixth Man of the Year Jordan Clarkson, and standout stalwart Walker Kessler.

Utah possesses the fifth overall pick in the 2025 draft and can utilize Edgecombe’s abilities to score and defend, and improve from their dead-last finish in the West last season.

#2 Philadelphia 76ers

Coach Nick Nurse’s Philadelphia 76ers had a disappointing 2024-25 campaign, despite signing perennial All-Star Paul George. The trio of George, Tyrese Maxey, and Joel Embiid all had their seasons cut short due to injuries. They did have a bright spot in incoming sophomore Jared McCain, who was the frontrunner for last year’s Rookie of the Year award, but he also suffered a season-ending injury.

With this, the 76ers can pick up Edgecombe with their third overall pick to inject more youth and depth into their 2025-26 campaign in the hopes of bringing a championship to the city of Philadelphia.

#1 Charlotte Hornets

According to ESPN’s latest mock of the 2025 NBA Draft, VJ Edgecombe is projected to be selected with the fourth-overall pick in the first round by coach Charles Lee’s Charlotte Hornets. The franchise has long been looking for a co-star for their All-Star floor general, LaMelo Ball. Should they end up with Edgecombe, the pair can be an electric backcourt that could wreak havoc in the open Eastern Conference in the 2025-26 season.

Last year, the Hornets finished with the No. 14 seed and an overall record of 19-63, missing the Playoffs.
