Villanova, Virginia Tech Among the Final 4 Schools for Middle Tennessee Guard Jlynn Counter

Middle Tennessee guard Jlynn Counter has narrowed his choice of schools down to four after entering the transfer portal last week.

According to On3 rankings, the 6’3″ guard currently ranks as a three-star in this year’s transfer portal, just outside the top 300 ranked players to enter the portal this year.

Jlynn Counter’s Long Transfer Portal History

During his time playing college basketball, Counter has played for three different teams and is about to make the move to his fourth.

Out of high school, the Oklahoma-born guard committed to North Oklahoma College Enid, where he dominated, leading the team in both points and rebounds, all as a freshman.

This earned the guard some attention from D1 schools, including the IU Indy Jaguars, whom he committed to in his sophomore year, continuing to dominate. Counter once again led the team in points and assists during his two-year stint in Indianapolis.

Following his two years at IU, Counter once again made the decision to enter the transfer portal, joining the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders and finishing the season with 10.5 points per game.

Among the four final schools named on Counter’s list is Virginia Tech, which could potentially be the perfect fit for the Guard going into his senior season.

Following the losses of Patrick Wessler, Connor Serven, Ben Burnham, and Mylyjael Poteat, who all departed the Hokies to enter the transfer portal, Virginia Tech is in desperate need of some experienced players to steady the ship, making Counter the perfect fit.

Following the announcement that Brandon Rechsteiner, who led the team in assists last year, is departing Virginia Tech for Colorado State, a player like Counter, who has previously led his teams in assists, would be the ideal replacement for the playmaker.

Despite how apparent it is that the senior guard would be the perfect fit for Virginia Tech, the Hokies will have to compete with three other schools in order to earn his commitment.

Among these schools is Villanova, which recently acquired a new head coach in Kevin Willard, Seton Hall, and the College of Charleston who are all in the running to acquire Counter.

There is no apparent date or reports indicating when Counter will make his final decision.
