After averaging only 1.7 points per game (ppg) in 8.1 minutes per game (mpg) as a freshman in 2023-24, Evans came back vastly improved and produced 10.6 ppg, 2.9 rebounds per game (rpg), and 3.1 assists per game (apg) on 47.1% shooting from the field and an excellent 44.6% from three-point range.
He started all 36 games for the Rams after starting none the season prior.
Included in the Kansas City, MO, native’s second season was a career-high 23-point performance in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Evans’ six three-pointers were the catalyst behind Colorado State’s upset victory over the fifth-seeded Memphis Tigers. He also dished out four assists and amassed two steals in the 78-70 victory.
Down the stretch of league play, Evans scored in double figures in 10 consecutive games. During those games, he shot 48.1% from beyond the arc, proving himself to be a consistent threat from outside.
Now, Evans is headed to North Carolina to join a team that reached the tournament as an 11-seed but was defeated in the first round.
Legendary Tar Heel point guard R.J. Davis, who spent five seasons as the team’s point guard, is graduating. Fellow guards Ian Jackson and Eliot Cadeau are also departing the program after recently entering the transfer portal.

That leaves a major void at the point guard position — something head coach Hubert Davis surely hopes Evans can lock down.
As a sharp-shooting guard with the ability to find the open man, Evans should have success at the helm for the Tar Heels surrounded by whomever else decides to join the party — which, as recent history has shown, will be extremely talented players similarly attracted to the aura that the UNC program holds.
