UNC Basketball Recruiting: Hubert Davis’ North Carolina Makes the Cut for 2026 5-Star Recruit

Head coach Hubert Davis and the North Carolina Tar Heels are still preparing for the 2025-26 college basketball season. While that has taken a good portion of their focus, they are also looking to the future. That means that the coaching staff has been putting work into ensuring it has a strong 2026 recruiting class.

Anthony Thompson is a five-star recruit who, according to On3, is the No. 8-ranked player in his class. As a result, he has been heavily recruited by many of the top schools in the nation, including North Carolina.

On Thursday, On3 reported that, according to Thompson’s agent Nate Conley, the forward has narrowed his recruitment to seven teams. The seven teams are as follows: Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio State, Purdue and Texas.

In a recent interview with Rivals, Thompson spoke about some of the schools he is considering, including North Carolina.

“They [North Carolina] are another very storied program, a blue blood program,” Anthony Thompson said. “Coach Hubert Davis has been preaching how big of a priority I am for them, too.”

In a separate interview with Rivals, Anthony Thompson also spoke about what he is prioritizing during the recruiting process. As per Thompson, he is interested to play for a person, with whom he has formed a great connection, which will help him to succeed.

“I’m going to look at the play style and their plan for me. I’ve played a small forward role my whole life, so that is what I’m most comfortable with. I think it allows me to best open up my game inside and out. But I can play however the coach wants me, in multiple different styles. So, I’m going to look at the play style and go somewhere I’m comfortable.”

Anthony Thompson has not given a timeline for when he plans to make his commitment. While many players in his class have already made commitments, there is no rush for him. Players in the 2026 class still have many months until they need to choose a school.
