The North Carolina Tar Heels received some positive news this week in their chase for small forward Maximo Adams. Head coach Hubert Davis lost out on two key recruits last week, but Adams’ latest decision should pour some hope into the program’s recruiting.
According to Joe Tipton of Rivals, Adams has cancelled visiting Duke on November 7th. This would mean Adams’ last stop was at UNC, which should put the program in contention.
Prior to the North Carolina visit, Adams visited Texas, Kansas, Michigan State, Kentucky, and USC.
Adams played for Sierra Canyon High School. He measures 6-foot-7, 200-pound and ranks among the top 20 small forwards in the country. According to 247Sports, he is No. 23 in the nation, No. 10 among small forwards and No. 5 in California.
Hubert Davis’ UNC Missed Out On a Top-30 Prospect
In September, Hubert Davis’ 2026 recruiting class faced another setback as they tried to close four-star power forward Quinn Costello. He committed to the Michigan Wolverines over offers from North Carolina, Michigan State, Texas, Purdue and Minnesota.
This comes although Davis personally chose to fly down to Boston, Massachusetts, to personally visit Costello. However, the player didn’t consider visiting North Carolina in response.
Despite UNC missing out on several key prospects lately in the 2026 recruiting class, in August, he received praise from top-25-ranked prospect Cameron Holmes. In an interview with James Madden and Sam Lance of ZagsBlog, he said:
“Hubert Davis is a great coach. He’s more of the one that’s down-to-earth. He’ll tell you what you need to hear and he’ll tell you it in a good way. But I love North Carolina. I’ve always been a fan of North Carolina since I was young, seeing their championship runs and all their March Madness runs. Yeah, it’s just a great school.”
The Tar Heels’ 2025 recruiting class is still strong. But it’s always a welcome sight to see more top-ranked recruits join Chapel Hill.
