UNC Basketball Recruiting: Hubert Davis Set To Enter Race With SEC Rival For 7-foot Overseas Standout

The African country of Cameroon has produced many big names in international basketball, chief among them are Joel Embiid and Pascal Siakam. Now, two massive college programs, Hubert Davis’ North Carolina and Bill Self’s Kansas, are eyeing a seven-foot rising star from that country to join either of their respective programs.

Rivals reporter Joe Tipton has reported that the two schools are vying for Cameroonian center Amadou Seini, who stands at 7’1 and has a 7’5 wingspan with a 7’3 reach. He is a physical specimen who will begin playing in the US soon, as he is currently at Bella Vista Prep in Arizona, and he is part of the Class of 2026.

Despite having an imposing physical presence, the seven-footer is unstarred and unranked by Rivals as of the moment. He is currently a work in progress, though both UNC and Kansas have the means to turn this diamond in the rough into a full-fledged star later in his career. Which one he will choose is still the big question.

Much of the big center’s basketball prowess is still unknown to many US coaches, as he has mostly played outside of the country. However, the big colleges all over the country will be able to get to see him play at the Players Era tournament in Las Vegas on Thanksgiving Day weekend. His school, Buena Vista Prep, is considered one of the top schools in the country, so many college coaches are expected to watch.

Cameroonian Center Amadou Seini Previously Shined at The 2025 FIBA U19 World Cup

Before heading to the United States, Amadou Seini played at the Varese Academy, which is the youth development program of the Italian professional basketball club, Pallacanestro Varese. He has plenty of experience playing in Europe, but this will be his first time playing in the American system.

He truly gained international attention during the 2025 FIBA U19 World Cup, which the AJ Dybantsa-led USA Basketball squad won in dominant fashion. There, he almost averaged a double-double, averaging 9.9 points and 15.3 rebounds. This rebounding average also broke the event’s all-time rebounding record, previously held by Zach Edey and Jonas Valančiūnas.

With his international prowess gaining attention, it would only be a matter of time before the offers come in. UNC and Kansas have only shown interest, but how well he will do against American players will determine which schools will extend offers.
