“Fire Ty Lue”: Fans Berate Clippers After Head Coach Reveals Mediocre Goal for the Rest of the Season

Los Angeles Clippers head coach Tyrone Lue is getting a lot of backlash after he laid out his team’s plans for the current regular season. On Sunday, Dec. 21, @hoopsalerts on Instagram uploaded a graphic design of Lue.

Lue said his Los Angeles-based team’s goal now is to finish the year with a 35-20 record. This came as a surprise to several onlookers, as the Clippers are settling for mediocrity despite expectations to go far this season. As it stands, coach Lue and the Clippers currently possess a 6-21 overall record.

“Ty Lue says the Clippers goal is to be 35-20 the rest of the season. ‘Our main goal is try to be 35-20 the rest of the way and just keep stacking wins from there.’ The Clippers are currently 6-21 😬,” @hoopsalerts on Instagram captioned with an emoji.

The Clippers finished the 2024-25 campaign with an overall record of 50-32, as they finished as the No. 5 seed in the Western Conference. They then fought tooth and nail in the first round of the NBA playoffs against coach David Adelman’s Denver Nuggets, in which they lost in seven games, 4-3. If the Clippers’ current trend continues, they’ll lose out on postseason play entirely.

The Los Angeles Clippers Recently Snapped Their Five-Game Losing Streak

On Saturday, Dec. 20, the Los Angeles Clippers notched up a huge victory over their in-city rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers, defeating them 103-88 on their home floor, the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California.

Prior to this big triumph, however, the Clippers were on the heels of a five-game losing streak. Los Angeles now looks to carry on the momentum in their next game against the Houston Rockets.
