Texas Longhorns guard Tre Johnson is one of the most talented scorers from the 2024-25 college basketball season. In just one year with coach Rodney Terry’s squad, the homegrown talent showed great skill at scoring the ball at all three levels. Eventually, as the campaign culminated, Johnson led his program in scoring with a 19.9 point average, to go along with 3.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.
The Longhorns, paced by Johnson’s leadership, then finished with an overall record of 19-16 and were eliminated in the First Four of the 2025 NCAA tournament. As of now, Johnson is looking to make it into the NBA through this year’s draft on June 25 to 26 in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Let’s take a look at five of his best possible landing spots.

5 NBA Landing Spots For Tre Johnson
#5 Utah Jazz
Coach Will Hardy’s team is entering another year in its rebuild ever since it traded away its former stars in Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert. While they have had standout players since then in Keyonte George, Jordan Clarkson, Lauri Markkanen and Walker Kessler, the Jazz is still actively looking to bolster the squad to eventually make noise in the West.
Enter Tre Johnson, should they take him with their fifth overall pick, and Utah may potentially find a talented scorer that could shoulder the offensive load on most nights. Playing alongside the aforementioned players, Johnson and Co. may find a way to improve from their abysmal 2024-25 record of 17-65.
#4 New Orleans Pelicans
The New Orleans Pelicans are in the midst of possible trade talks towards their superstar in Zion Williamson. Williamson has shown that he can be a cornerstone for the franchise’s future if he is healthy, but that is often halted by another injury. Should they take Johnson with the seventh pick in the first round, then perhaps some of Williamson’s production can be lessened for him to consistently stay healthy, as Johnson has the potential to do so.
#3 Toronto Raptors
Headlined by the likes of Scottie Barnes, Brandon Ingram and RJ Barrett, Tre Johnson has the potential to be another great player in the young Raptors roster. Toronto has long been trying to return to its 2019 championship success, and Johnson’s ability to score can help stack up the talent in their 2025-26 squad.
Last year, coach Darko Rajakovic’s team finished as the 11th seed of the Eastern Conference with a 30-52 record and held the ninth overall pick of the draft.
#2 Washington Wizards
The current 2025 mock draft of ESPN projects that Tre Johnson will be selected with the sixth overall pick by the Washington Wizards. Should that be the case, then coach Brian Keefe’s team will be adding a talented scorer to their roster that possesses the likes of Jordan Poole, Alex Sarr and Khris Middleton.
With a mix of veterans and young cogs like Johnson, the Wizards could work their way into next year’s Play-Ins, especially since they finished the 2024-25 campaign dead last in the East with an 18-64 record.
#1 Brooklyn Nets
Coach Jordi Fernandez’s Brooklyn Nets may possibly be the ideal landing spot for Tre Johnson. The Nets are currently led by their point guard in D’Angelo Russell, 3-and-D wing Cam Johnson and big man Nic Claxton. With this, Johnson can potentially be Brooklyn’s answer towards their backcourt scoring and let the 19-year-old thrive in their system as a scorer.
In the 2024-25 campaign, the Nets finished with an overall record of 28-56 as the 12th seed in the Eastern Conference.
