Tre Johnson Draws Ray Allen Comparison After Lighting Up NBA Draft Combine
Every new player shares similarities with someone who has played the game before, and Tre Johnson has been compared to NBA Hall of Famer Ray Allen. Allen played 18 seasons in the NBA as a shooting guard and was widely considered one of the greatest three-point shooters ever. At the time of his retirement, he was the leading three-point scorer in NBA history until he was surpassed by Stephen Curry in 2021.
Tre Johnson has a strong case as the best shooter in the 2025 NBA Draft class, combining efficiency with shot-making variety, off the dribble, catch-and-shoot, in transition, and out of the PNR.

ESPN analyst Seth Greenberg thinks Johnson is similar to Allen due to his impressive shooting abilities displayed at the combine.
“He’s a bucket, talking about 6’6, he reminds of Ray Allen”, Greenberg said.
“When you look at his game, his ability to move off the ball, shoot the threes, his ability to use shot fake to get in the lane, the guy’s a world class three-point shooter. He has terrific footwork, can play off the bounce, can shoot the three. I mean if you look at the measurables in the shooting drills, he was absolutely off the charts. His ability to make shots makes him plug and play ready.”
At the draft combine, Tre Johnson had 73% success with his shots off the dribble, 68% spot up shooting and 64% overall three-point shooting. Those are very impressive numbers from the Longhorn.
