Top Moves in the 2025 Men’s Basketball Transfer Portal

The 2025 men’s basketball transfer portal is creating waves with several high-profile players making moves that could reshape the landscape for next season. Top movements include:

    Yaxel Lendeborg

A 6-foot-9, 240-pound forward, whose versatility made him a standout at UAB. His performance in the AAC Tournament, where he posted an impressive 30 points, 20 rebounds, eight assists, four blocks, and five steals, showcased his ability to impact every area of the game. His commitment to Michigan under new head coach Dusty May is a massive win for the Wolverines.

    PJ Haggerty

A 6-foot-3 guard from Memphis is another significant name in the portal. Haggerty was named AAC Player of the Year and earned second-team All-American honors. Known for his transition play and ability to draw fouls, Haggerty’s offensive presence will be missed at Memphis, but his next stop is expected to bolster another program’s scoring ability.

    Bennett Stirtz

The talented point guard leaves Drake for Iowa, following his head coach, Ben McCollum. Stirtz is recognized for his elite pick-and-roll ability and high efficiency, especially around the basket. His leadership was vital in leading Drake to a successful NCAA Tournament run, and his transfer to Iowa will certainly strengthen their backcourt.

Two of the portal’s biggest names remain uncommitted: RJ Luis Jr. from St. John’s and Darrion Williams. He averaged 15.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists this past season, was named First-Team All-Big 12, and played a pivotal role in Texas Tech’s Elite Eight appearance.

Luis, the Big East Player of the Year and tournament MVP, averaged 18.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.0 assists. His decision is highly anticipated, and teams like Providence are already looking for replacements, including targeting Bryce Hopkins. Luis could command a NIL deal upwards of $1.5 million if he returns to college.
