Key South Carolina transfer commit Treysen Eaglestaff has decommitted from the Gamecocks to send Kansas and Kentucky fans into a recruiting frenzy. Eaglestaff is a top prospect in the transfer portal this college basketball offseason. He looked nailed on to join South Carolina after committing to them, but he has now changed his mind and reopened his recruitment.

Eaglestaff Making The Best Decision For His Future
Eaglestaff revealed on Wednesday that he is breaking his commitment to South Carolina and will soon make a decision on his future. This is a major blow to South Carolina and comes shortly after reports that projected lottery pick Collin Murray-Boyles has decided to declare for the draft.
“This was a difficult decision, but after discussing this with my family this is the best course of action for my future,” Eaglestaff said. “Thank you to Coach Paris and the South Carolina staff for recruiting me during this process”.
Eaglestaff started his career at North Dakota and burst onto the scene last season after recording 40 points with 8 made 3-pointers in a loss to Alabama. Eaglestaff also recorded 51 points in his conference tournament with 8 made 3-pointers in a loss to South Dakota State.
Kansas and Kentucky Fans Get To Recruiting
While South Carolina is still licking their wounds from the Eaglestaff’s sudden decommitment, fans of rival teams Kansas and Kentucky have gone into recruitment in the hope that the 37% 3-point shooter who is now one of the best available players in the transfer portal would join them after initially snubbing interest from them.
Eaglestaff was rated a 4-star transfer prospect when he committed to the Gamecocks. He was also rated the 67-year-old overall player available on the transfer portal. Before he initially committed to South Carolina, there were several reports that he was also considering Kansas, Kentucky, and Gonzaga.
Many fans have joked on X about the real reason Eaglestaff decided to recommit, but Kansas and Kentucky fans remain hopeful that their side could land the top prospect.
“Welcome to Kentucky,” a Kentucky fan posted on X.
It isn’t clear yet if Kansas and Kentucky would still be interested in Eaglestaff. However, judging by their social media reactions, their fans wouldn’t mind at all.
