“Tom Brady Already Slept on Him”: Fans React as Damian Lillard Makes Feelings Clear on Shedeur Sanders

Portland Trail Blazers’ All-Star Damian Lillard recently shared his thoughts on young NFL talent, Shedeur Sanders, via social media.

On Sunday, Oct. 5, Lillard posted on his X/Twitter account, urging coach Pete Carroll’s Las Vegas Raiders to trade for current Cleveland Browns rookie, Sanders, with this year’s trade deadline approaching.

This comes after a lot of criticism of the Raiders in terms of their veteran quarterback, Geno Smith. This was ignited on the same day when the Raiders tallied their fourth loss of the year, a blowout 41-6 humiliation, against the Indianapolis Colts in away territory. Lillard called for a fresh start for the Raiders in the form of NFL legend Deion Sanders’ son, Shedeur.

Fans from both the basketball and football worlds reacted to Lillard sharing his thoughts.

“Brady already slept on him,” one fan captioned.

“Shedeur couldn’t win in college while throwing to the best player in the country, bro,” another fan pointed out.

“Damn man you really wanna see as many people as possible go ringless just like you 😭,” another user said with a crying emoji.

“Hi! Browns fan here. He’s no where near ready to play NFL football regardless what you or any other people outside of Cleveland want to believe. We actually see him. We have insiders. He’s not QB3 just because,” a fan explained.

Other X users poured in their takes that resonated with Lillard’s towards Sanders.

“Common Dame W,” one fan wrote.

“Say it louder Dame, Geno Smith is *ss,” another fan posted.

“Dame you know they should’ve drafted him,” a fan shared.

For Lillard, he made a triumphant return to the Trail Blazers earlier this year after he was waived and bought out of his contract by the Milwaukee Bucks.

Lillard is nursing a left Achilles tear, which he suffered in the first round of the 2025 NBA playoffs. He is looking to return at the start of the 2026-27 campaign. His allegiance to the Raiders may stem from the fact that he hails from Oakland, California.

Damian Lillard Urges Las Vegas Raiders To Retain Geno Smith

Along with calling for the Las Vegas Raiders to trade for Shedeur Sanders, Damian Lillard said he would want the Raiders to keep Geno Smith in their lineup as well. Lillard wrote on his Instagram stories:

“Keep Geno, but just start getting ready for the future at this point, man,” Lillard wrote.

This is because, presumably, Smith can be inserted into a veteran role for Sanders, one that can guide him and shape him up to be the next starting quarterback for the Raiders.
