Thomas Haugh is a rising star playing at Florida Gators, and he’s currently an NBA prospect. Behind every successful athlete stands an athletic supporter; Thomas’s support comes in the form of his parents, as both parents are accomplished athletes whose legacies have helped propel and shape the champion’s career.

The Career of Jennifer and Ryan, Thomas Haugh’s Parents
Jennifer was an accomplished volleyball player, playing for Lebanon Valley College in Pennsylvania state around the mid-1990s. She helped lead her team, the Flying Dutchmen, to various tournaments. She has an exceptional volleyball career and good leadership qualities, which are evident and have helped in her son’s approach to basketball.
Ryan Haugh’s athletic career at Millersville University was exceptional; he competed as a decathlete on the track from 1994 to 1998.
Ryan, with his great athletic skill set and mental capabilities during his prime, earned many PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) honors and was featured among Millersville’s all-time decathletes. His experience and versatility have been great tools in shaping and mentoring Thomas’ development.
Ryan and Jennifer married and settled in New Oxford, Pennsylvania, after their college career. Though both choose careers outside of sports, they create an atmosphere where sports are the order of the day to nurture Thomas.
To support Thomas, the regular activity in their home is basketball, as they regularly have informal backyard playing time.
Since his early age, Thomas has been beneficial to what it means to have athletic support, learning from firsthand knowledge what it takes to dominate the athletics landscape.
Thomas’ choice of basketball was shaped and not forced, as he had earlier in his career engaged in volleyball and football, but having athletic support has been a great game changer in shaping him.
In a recent interview with Florida Sports Publication, Jennifer emphasized their parental role in shaping the champion.
“We never wanted to be those parents who force our athletic background onto our children, but we did want to share our love for competition and the life lesson that come with it. When Thomas gravitated toward basketball, we simply tried to provide the right environment for his talent to flourish,” Jennifer said.

Sources also quote Ryan’s words in a parent weekend feature.
“We understand what he’s going through. In ways, many parents might not,” Ryan said. “The physical demands, the time management challenges the emotional ups and downs of competition; we lived it. So we try to offer perspective when needed but also know when to just listen or simply be there.”
The impact Jennifer and Ryan made on Thomas goes far beyond their athletic credentials. Having experienced competition firsthand, they taught Thomas work ethic and resilience, which shone fort as the player profile rose, with potential NBA prospects on the horizon.
