Texas vs. Ole Miss Prediction: Rebels Aim to Get Back in the Win Column Against Surging Longhorns

The Longhorns and Rebels have gone in two different directions as of late. Texas has won its last two games, both against ranked opponents, rebounding after a 1-4 conference start. Conversely, Ole Miss has dropped its previous three contests following a 4-0 start to SEC play.

Find out our thoughts in this Texas vs. Ole Miss prediction. The Rebels remain ranked No. 23 in the nation. Can Ole Miss get back to their winning ways, or will the Longhorns defeat their third ranked opponent in a row, revealing themselves as an ascending contender in the loaded SEC?

Texas has only been the underdog in five games this season, covering in three and losing in blowout fashion in two. The Longhorns gone over the listed point total in six of their last eleven outings. The Longhorns have been largely untested on the road this season, splitting their four true away games.

In three SEC games as the favorite, Ole Miss has covered twice, winning both by 12 points. They’ve consistently finished under the listed point total — in fact, the under has hit in 10 of their last 13 games, though only one was as low as the posted line of 141.5 against Texas. The Rebels lost their last home conference game, a part of their three game losing-streak.

Prediction for Texas vs. Ole Miss

These two teams have eerily similar play-styles; Texas scores 78.9 ppg, allowing 66.3 ppg, versus 77.8 ppg for Ole Miss while giving up 66.4 ppg.

The expected final score is 74-68, with the Rebels pulling out the win on their home court, snapping their three game skid.

Winning in the SEC has proved tough this season, with as many as 10 teams ranked in the AP-Poll Top-25 at once. It’s unlikely Ole Miss will be playing at their best only four days since losing by eight to the Missouri Tigers.

The -6.5 line — against a surging Longhorns squad led by freshman flame-thrower Tre Johnson — I believe is more of a reflection of the Rebels’ 4-0 conference start than the current state of their team.

Yes, they are at home — but I’d hammer the +6.5 due to the Longhorns increased confidence that they’ve shown in beating two-consecutive top-25 squads. I see the Longhorns coming into Oxford with the expectations that they’ll beat the Rebels.

However, due to the lack of value with the +180, I don’t love betting the outright win. A fun angle to take — especially if you’re just rooting for a good game — is either team to win by 1-5 points. The odds sit at +170, good value for a conference game between extremely similar foes.

I see this game coming down to the final possessions, with the potential for free throw shooting to just barely top the over. The Rebels’ home crowd will provide just enough support to help pull out a win, their first in over two weeks.

Prediction: Ole Miss 74, Texas 72
