AJ Dybantsa is suiting up for USA Basketball once again later this month, and this is happening ahead of his freshman year at BYU. Before he leaves, however, the No. 1-ranked recruit from the Class of 2025 participated in some scrimmages, where he once again dominated against some of the best ballers in the country from his age bracket.
The incoming BYU freshman showed off his athleticism during those scrimmages, as well as his hustle. He also showed that he can drain a shot from beyond the arc even with a hand in his face, as well as defend the ball well. His dominance in the court had his former Prolific Prep and Oakland Rebels teammate Tyran Stokes, the No. 1 prospect from the class of 2026, cheering loudly from the bench.

With a lot of members of the U19 squad entering their freshman year of college, several scouts were watching. A lot of them are already aware of who AJ Dybantsa is, given that he is the No. 1-ranked recruit from the Class of 2025. Despite this, his performances are still turning their heads and grabbing him even more attention during these scrimmages.
Dybantsa is projected to be a one-and-done for BYU, as he is expected to leave for the 2026 NBA draft and is even the favorite to be selected No. 1 overall. His performances at the USA Basketball scrimmages is making his case as next year’s No. 1 pick even stronger, and he has not even begun playing college basketball.
The five-star small forward has been known for his athleticism and ability to take over the game, though he does have a lot of competition for that No. 1 pick next year, as Kansas recruit Darryn Peterson already has his number, beating Dybantsa and Utah Prep multiple times. There is also Duke recruit Cameron Boozer, who has been collecting titles and personal awards since his freshman year at high school.
