With the NBA draft lottery over, draft season is well upon us, and teams are already drawing up their lists of potential picks. The Phoenix Suns have only one pick in the first round, number 29, as their number 10 slot is going to the Houston Rockets. They do have another pick in the second round, number 52.
The draft presents the Phoenix front office with a chance to infuse the organization with two more young prospects and build something sustainable beneath the star-studded surface. New GM Brian Gregory has expressed an appreciation for player development, so we should expect an influx of youth.

Marquette Combo Guard Could Be Heading to Phoenix.
Marquette guard Kam Jones is an immediate impact player. Last season, he showed that he’s one of the best players in college basketball. He’s been projected to land at Phoenix at number 29 in CSN’s latest mock draft.

“Without any of their future draft picks, the Suns have to continue to try to compete next season. Bringing in Jones, who averaged 19.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.9 assists for the Golden Eagles make sense, as he could contribute off the bench right away.”
Jones was his team’s primary playmaker, adding substance to the talks that he could be a combo guard at the NBA level, playing on both sides of the ball.
While his shooting from distance was a slight concern, he was a menace inside the arc for opposing defenses, as his craftiness and ability to finish at the rim, including through contact, helped him to create offense both for himself and for others.
Jones wasn’t a slouch on defense as he averaged 1.4 steals per game. The Suns will be getting a player who is ready-made to lead the second unit of an offense, with the eventual hope that he can be a starting guard who can slide into either spot.

The Suns will have to hope for more good luck in the 2025 NBA Draft, as they are still in a precarious position after finishing 36-46 this season and with uncertainties surrounding the future of their all-star duo, Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. They have limited options and assets and as such they have to make smart decisions.
