Giannis Antetokounmpo is on every NBA viewer, fan and follower’s mind right now. There has been a lot of buzz around the possibility of Giannis leaving the Milwaukee Bucks. There have been reports that Giannis has requested a trade amid the Bucks’ poor season. Despite 9x All-Star averaging 28.9 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 6.1 assists in 17 games this season, the Bucks are 10-13 and 10th in the Eastern Conference.
Since 2021’s NBA championship, Milwaukee have never quite found its winning rhythm back. They have had first-round exits from the playoffs for the last 3 years in a row now. Many believe Giannis does not have a supporting squad to help him throughout the season. This often comes down to the head coach and the management, which is exactly what Stephen A. Smith’s take was.
“And if you look at the start line, I don’t want to cast any dispersions or disrespect anybody because these brothers can play. They’re not scrubs. But look at who [Giannis] he’s playing with. They’re not beating the Knicks. They’re not beating Detroit. They’re not beating several teams within the Eastern Conference,” Smith started dissecting.
“So, we ain’t even talking about the NBA. We talking about the East. Okay. And you’re Doc Rivers, respectfully, ’cause I love that man. You’ve been around too long to react like that over such an obvious question. You know better. He doesn’t have to come to you or go to the Milwaukee Bucks to ask for trade,” he continued.
Stephen A. Smith then discussed how Doc Rivers needs to know the answers to these trade-related questions, including those about the New York Knicks. He suspected that Rivers must know these answers.
“Why are those conversations happening? Because you’re not winning. They recently lost seven straight, eight or nine,” Stephen A. Smith said, “Okay, that’s where they are. They’re four, three games, three four games below 500. You’re a mediocre team in a watered down East.”
“With one of the greatest players we have ever seen. What’s he supposed to do? You know better than that, Doc Rivers. You know better than that,” Stephen A. Smith concluded.
Doc Rivers comments on Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future with the Bucks
The reporters asked Doc Rivers whether Giannis would be looking for a way out of Milwaukee soon. Rivers claimed that there had been no conversation, and he made clear that he would only say this one more time.
Giannis claimed that Giannis has never asked to be traded ever. He reiterated how he goes and talks to the “source” that is Giannis himself. Rivers shared how Giannis still loves Milwaukee and the Bucks. Rivers also called out Brian Windhorst for reporting Giannis’ trade requests.
