Months After Opposing Statements, Stephen A. Smith Reacts to Zohran Mamdani’s NYC Mayor Win

Famous sports analyst Stephen A. Smith has reacted to Zohran Mamdani winning the New York City mayoral elections. On Wednesday, Nov. 5, Mamdani made history by becoming the first Muslim to be named the head of office for New York City, defeating the likes of Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa and former Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Smith, who is quite vocal about his political views on social media, went on his X/Twitter account to share his thoughts on Mamdani’s mayoral election victory. While he did offer a congratulatory statement to the 34-year-old, Smith included a passive-aggressive line about his outlook towards the citizens of New York. Smith also reposted a video uploaded by Mamdani five years ago.

“Congrats @ZohranKMamdani! Hope you’ll be as good for New Yorkers as you say you will,” Smith wrote.

For months now, Smith has been sharing his thoughts regarding the possibility of Mamdani having a seat in the New York City office. Smith does not agree with Mamdani’s political and social views.

Nevertheless, Mamdani has won the votes of the people of New York City, as the likes of Smith are sticking to their own beliefs while subtly looking at the potential impact Mamdani can make with his new position. Mamdani is set to become the 111th mayor of the largest city in the United States, and the youngest since 1892.

When Stephen A. Smith Said He Has No Desire To Become A United States Politician

In early September of this year, Stephen A. Smith was interviewed by Matt Yoder of the Washington Post, wherein he was asked about the possibility of running for office in the USA. While he did not close the door on it, Smith asserted that he will run in politics only if he deems it necessary.

“I have no desire to be a politician. I have no intentions on being a politician, but I left the door open. A, because friends and loved ones of mine have asked me to do so and, B, because if these candidates appear to be as atrocious as they’ve been and we don’t see a light at the end of the tunnel to go up against what the other side is throwing in our direction, then will I entertain it? Yeah, I’ll entertain it,” Smith was quoted as saying.
