St. John’s Standout Aaron Scott Works Out With Raptors Ahead of 2025 NBA Draft

Toronto On The List of Potential NBA Teams Desiring Aaron Scott

As the 2025 NBA Draft approaches, players of interest are completing individual workouts to improve their status. For St. John’s forward Aaron Scott, his latest workout might be a sign that his stock is rising. According to reporting from Eye On The Storm podcast host David Berov, Scott is working out with the Toronto Raptors on Friday (June 6).

The 6-foot-7, 210 Scott helped fuel the Red Storm’s run last season under head coach Rick Pitino. He ranked in the top ten of Big East players for offensive rebounds and steals, while starting 30 out of the 36 games in the season, as St. John’s earned a number 2 seed in the NCAA men’s tournament.

His three-point prowess was part of his appeal after transferring to St. John’s from North Texas, where he shot 40.8% from behind the line as a sophomore, but it dropped to 29% in his senior season. His free throw percentage this past season was 81%, a distinct improvement from his previous years.

Some NBA draft experts initially projected that Scott would go undrafted, also pointing to a thumb injury he sustained, which required surgery after St. John’s was bounced out of the tournament in March. But Toronto’s workout has sparked interest in his ability to be utilized by the team as a post defender with the ability to stretch the floor with his three-point shooting skill.

A Sports Illustrated report speculates that he could be offered a G League contract with the 905 Raptors squad. His potential addition could add to a Toronto team that reportedly has its sights on Milwaukee Bucks foward Giannis Antetokounmpo among other stars. A trade of that sort would deplete its talent, and Scott could be useful to fill in some gaps. Scott has already worked out with the Washington Wizards, Golden State Warriors, Charlotte Hornets, and the Dallas Mavericks.
