Top Five Transfer Portal Landing Spots for St. John’s Center Khaman Maker

    Arizona State

The Sun Devils and head coach Bobby Hurley have lost many players to the portal, including their top big man, 7’ Shawn Phillips Jr., who averaged 17.9 minutes per game off the bench last year. Maker could head down to Tempe, Arizona, to reunite with one of the coaches who recruited him out of high school.

    Missouri

Missouri and head coach Dennis Gates landed Phillips and recruited Maker out of high school. With the Tigers’ top center, Josh Gray, hitting the transfer portal and freshman Peyton Marshall only averaging 4.4 minutes on 22 appearances last year, the field is wide open for Maker to make an impact in Columbia, Missouri.

    BYU

The Cougars, who also recruited Maker out of high school, bring in Xavion Staton to try and help fill the hole left by departing big man Fousseyni Traore. BYU and head coach Kevin Young haven’t shied away from spending in the portal, and they are already picking up a top transfer in Baylor’s Rob Wright. Comparatively, Maker shouldn’t make a dent.

    UNLV

The Runnin’ Rebels, who looked Maker’s way out of high school, have already brought in Arizona 7-footer Emmanuel Stephen in the portal and could look for another, given the expired eligibility of wing Jalen Hill.

    UCLA

While forward Tyler Biodeau is the star of this Bruins team, forwards William Kyle and Devin Williams and center Aday Mara hit the portal, leaving the frontcourt relatively empty, with only Biodeau.

Maker could find a spot in the lineup relatively early and make his impact felt immediately.
