Melvin Council entered the transfer portal after spending one year with St. Bonaventure. However, Council is not new to the transfer portal; he played at Monroe College for two years before spending one year at Wagner and then another year at St. Bonaventure.
The 6’4″ guard is highly sought after in this year’s portal. He averaged 14.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 2.1 steals per game in the 2024-25 season. Whoever gets Council is getting a durable player; he started 35 games for the Bonnies and played 36.9 minutes per game.

Kansas
Kansas lost six players to the transfer portal and are having a roster makeover ahead of the 2025-26 season. They already have a highly talented freshman coming in for next season, and the head coach is looking to build around him.
Darryn Peterson is the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2025 class and a projected top-three pick in the NBA Draft. Kansas is looking to surround him with talent and experience, and Council is an option they are considering.
Mississippi State
Mississippi State is also undergoing a roster turnover, as they lost seven players to the transfer portal. They could potentially lose star guard Josh Hubbard after he declared for the NBA draft, although he’s maintaining his college eligibility. Council is an option they are considering.
Georgia
Silas Demary Jr., RJ Godfrey, DeShayne Montgomery, Savo Drezgic, and freshman Asa Newell all entered the transfer portal and left the Bulldogs this year. Both Dakota Leffew and Tyrin Lawrence are out of eligibility as they have graduated.
Head coach Mike White is hoping to fill the space with talents from the portal, and Council is an option for him.
Georgia Tech
Georgia Tech lost Ibrahim Souare (Syracuse), Duncan Powell (Georgetown), Nait George (Syracuse), and Doryan Onwuchekwa to the transfer portal this window and hasn’t received any commits from the portal yet.
