The 2025-2026 season has not yet even started, and Michigan State has already suffered a big blow, as forward Kaleb Glenn has suffered a torn patellar tendon, per On3’s Joe Tipton. Glenn transferred from Florida Atlantic to Michigan, but he will be missing his entire first season with the Spartans due to that injury.
Tipton noted that Glenn will “redshirt this upcoming season,” as Michigan State loses a forward who averaged 12.6 points and 4.8 rebounds per game for Florida Atlantic last season. He only has two years of eligibility remaining, and this season-ending injury would be a big blow to his career.
One of his best games with the Owls was in a 119-116 loss to Charleston last November, where he dropped his season-high 27 points. He also dropped 22 points in a win over FIU last December, as well as 20 points in a loss to UNT last January.
This season-ending injury comes as the Spartans are in the midst of a roster shakeup, especially with freshman star Jase Richardson, son of former NBA Slam Dunk champion Jason Richardson, has left to join the 2026 NBA draft.
Michigan State also lost several key pieces of their roster to the transfer window, such as Tre Holloman to North Carolina State, Gehrig Normand to Santa Clara, and Xavier Booker to UCLA. The Spartans also lost forward Frankie Fidler and center Szymon Zapala, as they are not eligible to play next season anymore.
Michigan State Spartans still have incoming freshmen and more transfers as part of roster shake-up
After losing all those players, Michigan State Spartans head coach Tom Izzo immediately hit the transfer portal and snagged not just Kaleb Glenn, but also other key players. This includes Trey Fort from Samford, Divine Ugochukwu from Miami, and Denham Wojcik from Harvard.
In addition, Izzo is also bringing in some incoming freshmen in Cam Ward and Jordan Scott, both of whom are considered four-star recruits. Ward is a power forward, ranked No. 46 nationally by 247Sports, while Scott is a small forward, ranked No. 54 nationally.
There are also a few returning players for the Spartans, and one of them may be able to fill Glenn’s spot in the roster while he is still injured, That is Coen Carr, the team’s top returning scorer, averaging eight points per game. Carr had a breakout season during his sophomore year, and with Glenn injured, he might get the opportunity to prove himself for the Spartans.
