The South Florida Bulls have added a 6’2″ guard in the transfer portal who is expected to contribute immediately.

G Xavier Brown Commits to South Florida After Three Years at James Madison
After a disappointing 13-19 season, including a ninth-place finish in the AAC, South Florida has turned to the transfer portal for outside help.
On Thursday, they secured the commitment of Xavier Brown, formerly of the James Madison Dukes.
NEWS: James Madison transfer Xavier Brown has committed to South Florida, he tells @LeagueRDY.
Brown is a 6-foot-2 guard who has played all three collegiate seasons at James Madison. Started 30 of their 32 games this season.

Unranked as a prospect, Brown began his career with the Dukes after playing his high school ball in Williamsburg, VA.
He didn’t play much as a freshman, scoring just 2.8 points in 9.7 minutes. He didn’t start a single game.
The 6’2″ guard played a bigger role during his sophomore season, serving as a key bench player in the Dukes’ run to the NCAA Tournament. In the Sun Belt Championship, Brown scored 21 points on eight of 11 shooting from the field and five of six from beyond the arc, easily the catalyst behind the team’s 91-71 victory over Arkansas State.
He scored five points in 27 minutes in James Madison’s first-round victory over the fifth-seeded Wisconsin Badgers.
Brown’s featured role in the 2024-25 season was more prominent. He started 30 of 32 games and produced averages of 10.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists as one of the team’s main ball-handlers. Unfortunately for the team, the Dukes regressed despite Brown’s improved play.
Now, with a season of eligibility remaining, Brown is set to join the Bulls, who need all the help they can get — especially with the departure of former lead guard Jayden Reid, who left to join the Northwestern Wildcats.
Senior-to-be guard Kobe Knox remains on the roster after averaging 10.8 points and starting most of the season. Presumably, Brown would fit right into Reid’s position in the starting lineup and have most of the ball-handling responsibilities.

What could’ve been an addition to a position of strength soon became a necessity — regardless, it’s a good move for the Bulls to welcome Brown to the squad.
