South Carolina secure Commitment from Utah transfer 6’9″ Guard Mike Sharavjamts

On Monday, April 21, Utah transfer Mike Sharavjamts announced his commitment to South Carolina through his agent, Scott Nichols.

After a season with the Utah Utes and with only one year of eligibility left, he is committing to play for South Carolina because he wants to compete in the Southeastern Conference–a league that will put him in a position to play high-pressure games against competitive teams.

Sharavjamts played with the Dayton Flyers and San Francisco Dons in the 2022–2023 and 2023–2024 seasons, respectively. Over three seasons, he played for three teams, appearing in 99 games and starting 83.

As a junior at Utah, he averaged 7.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game, starting every game that season. He also recorded a career-high 18 points in a game against Seattle.

The 6’9” native of Mongolia secured South Carolina’s commitment because, as a point guard, he is expected to significantly impact the team and help improve their standing in the SEC.

What Skills Will Mongolian Mike Bring to the South Carolina Team?

Sharavjamts’s height is one advantage he has over his opponents. It makes it easier to pass and score from various positions on the court. He also possesses strong rim-protecting abilities and can effectively contest smaller opponents.

Sharavjamts is athletic and has excellent court vision, which allows him to anticipate his opponent’s next moves and respond with effective offense or defense. He will bring his experience from playing on multiple teams and contribute to the team-first mentality he has developed.

How Will Mike Fit With the South Carolina Gamecocks?

Sharavjamts is not the only transfer joining South Carolina. Alongside other players like Elijah Strong, Kobe Knox, Christ Essandoko, and Meechie Johnson, there is hope for a turnaround from the team’s disappointing 2024–2025 season. The South Carolina Gamecocks ranked 16th in the SEC this season. Worse still, they lost 19 of their 31 games.

There’s no doubt that the team needs restructuring and a fresh start, which will begin with these new recruits. With the head coach aiming to rebuild the program’s winning legacy in the SEC, Sharavjamts’s role as a point guard will be a key part of that effort.

While sharpening his skills and gaining exposure, Sharavjamts is poised to make his mark in the SEC.
