Shaqir O’Neal is getting ready for the 2025-26 NCAA season. The Sacramento State Hornets forward posted a video on Instagram on Wednesday of his practice sessions during this offseason, which drew reactions from his siblings, Mearah and Shareef.
O’Neal showed highlights of his recent scrimmages, including one filmed inside Sacramento State’s practice facility. He knocked down a vast array of jumpers in the clip and was seen working on his post move in one of the plays. He also included a defensive highlight, blocking a shot attempt of one of his opponents.

Shareef O’Neal reacted to his brother’s post, which has already received more than 1,000 likes.
“Babydrill,” O’Neal commented.

Mearah O’Neal also showed support for her brother, dropping a one-word comment to his highlights on her Instagram story.
“str8,” O’Neal wrote with a poultry leg emoji.

Shaqir O’Neal is ramping up his preparation ahead of his debut season with Sacramento State. He joined the Hornets through the transfer portal after spending one season at Florida A&M. He played 29 games for the Rattlers, averaging 6.7 points, 3.4 boards and 0.8 dimes in the 2024-25 season.
O’Neal will have some help this coming season as Sacramento State also secured the commitment of Mikey Williams. He opted to join the Hornets after getting limited playing time in his previous stint with the UCF Knights. Williams averaged 5.1 points, 1.9 rebounds and 0.7 assists in 14.0 minutes during his freshman year.
Shaquille O’Neal Teams Up With Son Shaqir O’Neal at Sacramento State
Shaqir isn’t the only O’Neal who joined Sacramento State this offseason. His father, basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal, accepted the Hornets’ offer to become the basketball team’s new general manager. O’Neal’s hiring came after former NBA star Mike Bibby joined Sacramento State as the team’s new head coach.
Sacramento State decided to shake things up with its personnel after the Hornets struggled mightily in the 2024-25 NCAA campaign. They finished last season with a 7-25 overall slate, including a woeful 3-15 record in the Big Sky Conference.
