Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander‘s reaction to a sequence in his team’s most recent game has gone viral all over social media. On Wednesday, Dec. 10, Gilgeous-Alexander and the rest of coach Mark Daigneault’s Thunder faced coach Jordan Ott’s Phoenix Suns on the former’s home court, the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, for the quarterfinals of the 2025 NBA Cup.
At the 5:18 mark of the third quarter, Suns guard Grayson Allen and Thunder stalwart Chet Holmgren got tangled up with one another as Holmgren was setting a screen on him. Allen then shoved Holmgren, causing the big man to fall, in what was later reviewed by the game’s officials as a flagrant 2. A verbal back-and-forth ensued between Allen and the referees, and the sharpshooter was thrown out of the game.
In a post then by @SportsCenter on X/Twitter, Gilgeous-Alexander’s candid reaction to the sequence is seen as Holmgren was trying to set a screen to get the reigning regular season MVP better looks. Gilgeous-Alexander had an expressive take on the matter, as it is vividly seen that he was very surprised by Allen’s push towards Holmgren. Nevertheless, the Thunder was up by a staggering 36 points at that point, 94-58.

Unfortunately for Allen, his team and the rest of the Suns faithful, the Thunder dominated the whole game to the tune of eventually winning by an astounding 49 points, 138-89, in front of their home crowd. The Thunder now moves on to play the NBA Cup semifinals in Las Vegas, while Phoenix heads back home, being eliminated from the tournament. Both teams now look to build on their NBA Cup performances towards the rest of the year.
The Oklahoma City Thunder Achieved The Best Regular Season Start Since The 2015-16 Golden State Warriors
To add to the delight of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the rest of the Oklahoma City Thunder, they have actually achieved the best start by any NBA team since the 2015-16 Golden State Warriors, headed by four-time NBA champion Stephen Curry, who finished with an overall record of 73-9.
As it stands, the Thunder have a current record of 25-1 in their championship defense campaign and is projected to have a historic finishing record.
