The 6’9″, 205-pound forward broke the news by posting a video on his personal Instagram account thanking fans and teammates for the emotions he experienced during the current season:

“It was an incredible year, probably the best year of my life,” Flagg said. “And I have so much gratitude, and I feel so blessed for all the opportunities that I was given.”

“Duke has always been a dream for me, but I’m excited to announce that I’ll be entering my name into the 2025 MLB Draft. Today is just the beginning, but I have The Brotherhood with me for life.”

Teammate Ryan Young was among those who responded to the post. Young trolled Flagg a bit, suggesting that he might be a second-round pick instead of a first-round pick:

“Congrats Coop, hope someone will take a chance on you in the mid to late second round,” Young wrote.

The joke tells itself, as Cooper Flagg is projected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, which will take place at the end of June. It is not yet known which team will make the first pick, and we will not know until the draft lottery is held on May 12.

Flagg was a scoring machine for the Blue Devils in his only season of college basketball. He averaged 19.2 points per game to go along with 7.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists. His total statistics included 709 points, 277 rebounds, and 156 assists in 37 games played.

His season results earned him an impressive list of awards and accolades:

    • National college player of the year
    • Consensus first-team All-American
    • Lute Olson Award (to the most outstanding men’s college basketball player in NCAA Division I competition).
    • Julius Erving Award (to the top men’s collegiate small forward).
