Baylor’s Robert Wright III is hitting the transfer portal, sources told ESPN’s Myron Medcalf. The freshman, who received an all-Big 12 honorable mention and Big-12 All-Freshman Team honors, averaged 11.5 points and led the team with 4.2 assists per game.
Baylor was under the impression Wright would stay in Waco, Texas, saying no to multiple elite portal players under that assumption, Medcalf said. Wright’s entry to the portal makes him one of the best and most enticing players available. Here are five potential landing spots for the 6’1” freshman.

Top Transfer Portal Landing Spots for Baylor Guard Robert Wright
UNC
The Tar Heels already picked up West Virginia freshman Jonathan Powell and could now look Wright’s way to replace senior RJ Davis, sophomore Elliot Cadeau, who is headed to Michigan, and freshman Ian Jackson, who could be headed to the 2025 NBA Draft.
Head coach Hubert Davis has a pair of guards with freshman Drake Powell and junior Seth Trimble who could receive meaningful minutes, but one more piece could give UNC the depth they need to become a true contender yet again.
St. John’s
Head coach Rick Pitino has been active in the portal, picking up freshman guard Joson Sanon from Arizona State and senior forward Bryce Hopkins from Providence. But with leading scorer RJ Luis Jr. headed out the door and seniors Kadary Richmond and Aaron Scott out of eligibility, they could still be searching for one more in the backcourt.
Duke
With potentially six players, including guards Kon Knueppel, Tyrese Proctor, and Sion James, headed to the NBA Draft and only two guards who played meaningful minutes— freshman Isaiah Evans and sophomore Caleb Foster — returning, head coach Jon Scheyer and the Blue Devils are expected to be very active in the portal. Wright could slot right in as a starter on an elite team.
Villanova
Head coach Kevin Willard and the Wildcats scored former Terrapins freshman Malachi Palmer in the portal Sunday, but Wright would be a clear upgrade over him. Villanova, which loses seniors Wooga Poplar, Jordan Longino, and Jhamir Brickus to eligibility after playing meaningful minutes at guard, clearly needs to reload. Wright could be the first piece of that puzzle.

Florida
Head coach Todd Golden has big holes to fill once Walter Clayton Jr. heads out the door. Wright could see the appeal of joining a national championship contender in the SEC, helping Golden replace his Player-of-the-Year contender guard.
