According to recent reports, North Carolina’s business has left them with a roster worth over $14 million as they prepare to take one step forward after taking two steps back last season. They crashed out in the first round of the NCAA Championship last season after going 23-14.
Pat Kelsey’s Transfer Portal Business Gets Nod From North Carolina Faithful
Ahead of the 2025 Season, Tim Donnelly and Max Goren of ESPN’s UNC Fan Podcast 99.9 The Fan shared their thoughts on North Carolina’s moves in the Spring transfer portal and the roster that is allegedly worth over $14 million, comparing them to ACC rival Louisville and coach Pat Kelsey last season.
“Louisville might be the best example. I don’t know if Louisville or UNC are gonna be better in the ACC this year, but what Louisville did feels like you spent the money and got something in return, a new coach, rebuilt everything,” the podcast host explained, detailing the caliber of player the program managed to snag in the portal last year.
“When those commitments came in, it was like, second-best guard, best point guard, best shooter, they just reeled them in, in comparison, UNC is like, that’s good value, like Jarin Stevenson, I think he has the potential to be a star, coming back home, but he hasn’t quite lived up to that yet.”
“The 14 million is spent, you better have gotten a deal on him, Veesar (Henri) from Arizona, he can do some things offensively, big dude, 7’0″, they need that, but if you spent 3$ million on him, the expectations are gonna be a lot higher on him, your gonna want him to be an all ACC player,” the North Carolina faithful explained.
While the fan show did give Kelsey a nod for his business, their opinion of their own business didn’t quite get the same nod, claiming UNC made some ‘smart’ pickups, overall, but that they’re still waiting to see if North Carolina potentially overspent on their current roster as the pressure rises and troubles mount.
Major North Carolina News Left Fans in Shock As Roster Value Is Revealed.
During the week, Greg Barnes of 247sports revealed the newest details surrounding UNC’s roster value, as it was revealed North Carolina spent upwards of $14 million in NIL Commitments.
“Multiple sources have confirmed that UNC has surpassed the $14 million mark in its financial commitment to the 2025-26 roster, approximately triple what was spent on the roster a year ago.” Barnes wrote in his article, leaving fans in shock.
While fans of the program have made their thoughts clear, the Social Media reaction has been much the same as the reaction by the North Carolina Faithful from the 99.9 The Fan Podcast.
