No. 1 in 2027? Baba Oladotun’s Rise Suggests He Could Be Even Better Than Advertised

Baba Oladotun, the consensus top-ranked player in the 2027 class, has quickly emerged as a generational talent, capturing the attention of elite college programs and NBA scouts alike. Kentucky became the first school to offer him a scholarship in September.

His family has closely followed Mark Pope’s rapid impact in Kentucky, and what they’ve seen deeply resonates with them. Oladotun’s rare mix of maturity, size, and polish hints he may surpass even the highest expectations.

Oladotun, the top-rated junior in the class of 2027, continues to validate his elite ranking with each appearance, drawing serious interest from powerhouse programs and pro scouts alike.

At the recent NBPA Top 100 Camp, Oladotun impressed with a dominant performance with onlookers calling him “unstoppable.” Analyst Jeff Goodman noted on X.

“A year ago, the No. 1 player in 2027 class, Baba Oladotun, was all about potential. After watching him the last couple days, his production is starting to match his potential.”

    Goodman added,

“Oladotun is so intriguing. Long, skilled and incredible upside. Can shoot it, terrific in transition and has gotten tougher. Just needs to continue to get stronger and become even more consistent.”

At the Nike EYBL session in Memphis, Oladotun showed off his all-around game playing for Team Durant, tallying 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting, four rebounds, four assists, and a block in a narrow 74-71 loss to Nightrydas Elite. Kentucky coaches were in attendance, having been the first to offer him in September.

Ibrahim Oladotun, Baba’s father, was in Memphis and spoke with KSR+ about what it meant to see Pope’s debut season at Kentucky.

“I was blown away. It almost brought me to tears,” he said. “Everything that’s happening to him is very historic. That’s just remarkable. Kentucky basketball, bluegrass, and all of that stuff are a big deal. It’s living the dream.”

Kentucky remains high on the family’s list.

“It’s a great program. It’s probably one of the best in the country,” Baba said. “To match that with Coach Pope, that’s incredible. I like his energy. He also has NBA experience. It doesn’t get better. They’re the blue-bloods.”

Still, they remain open to all suitors. With 34 offers, Ibrahim emphasized that fit will dictate the final decision.

“We’re going to listen to everybody, whether they’re blue-blood or yellow-blood,” he said. “A coach who knows how to use a big guard like him, he’s not a forward.”

As June 15 approaches, when coaches can contact 2027 prospects directly, Ibrahim will continue managing recruitment.
