The recent matchup between the New York Knicks and Orlando Magic couldn’t have been anymore interesting. During the fourth quarter of the game, a bizarre sequence took place where Magic’s Desmond Bane threw the game ball one handed at Knicks’ OG Anunoby. Anunoby fell out of bounds and got up confused to give Bane a little shove. The officials considered this a hostile act and handed the Magic guard a technical foul.
This was an act of play that was hardly ever seen before in the league. Though the two players hugged it out to sort this issue, it definitely doesn’t change the fact how odd it was. Former Sacramento Kings big man DeMarcus Cousins noticed how unfair Bane’s act was and decided to have his own opinion about this situation on the Run It Back show.
Cousins is someone who would not have let such an act slide. While Chandler Parsons tried giving Anunoby the props for not escalating the situation, Boogie said,
“No, it’s not kudos to OG. Naw, naw, I’m not saying punch him in the face, but maybe slap the s*** out of him. That’s crazy.”
The NBA has seen a number of brawls, and some have turned pretty nasty (think the Malice in the Palace in 2004). DeMarcus Cousins is someone who has been part of a number of such brawls himself and was best known for his grit and as an enforcer in the league. So, such a reaction from Boogie isn’t any surprise for anyone.
The Knicks wounded up winning the game 106-100, meaning Anunoby definitely got the last laugh. After the incident, when he was asked about the same, he jokingly said, “I should have caught it!” Well, that’s a great level of sportsmanship shown by Anunoby, who finished the night with 21 points, three steals, and seven rebounds.
What Happened To Franz Wagner In The Game Against The Knicks?
The game against the Knicks might have cost the Magic heavy on Sunday. Franz Wagner appeared to have suffered a leg injury in the first quarter after getting fouled by Knicks’ Ariel Hukporti attempting a block on a lob passed by Anthony Black. Wagner awkwardly hit the ground and was on the floor for several minutes, before being assisted off the court. Wagner is expected to be re-evaluated upon the team’s return to Orlando ahead of the NBA Cup quarterfinal against the Miami Heat.
Wagner’s absence poses a major concern for the fifth-place Eastern Conference Magic, who rely heavily on his scoring spark amid ongoing injury issues, including Paolo Banchero’s recent 10-game groin absence. Without Wagner’s elite production, who is tied for 20th in NBA scoring, the Magic loses a key offensive engine and workhorse praised by coach Jamahl Mosley, potentially disrupting their momentum and depth in a competitive stretch. His prior oblique strain that sidelined him for over 20 games last season underscores the vulnerability this creates for Orlando’s playoff push.
